Frequently asked questions

UAN (Universal Account Number) is your permanent 12-digit EPF ID across all employers. Use it to check balance (epfindia.gov.in or UMANG app), transfer EPF when changing jobs, and withdraw online.
Transfer your EPF to the new employer using your UAN within 3 years. Never withdraw on job change — it breaks compounding and invites tax (if service < 5 years).
Withdrawal before 5 continuous years of service is taxable. After 5 years, fully exempt. This is why you must never break EPF on job changes.
