What is a discount calculator?

A discount calculator finds the final price after a percentage off is applied — instantly showing how much you save and what you actually pay. It also works in reverse: given a discounted price, find the original.

Formula used

Discount amount = Original price × Discount% ÷ 100 Final price = Original − Discount Reverse (find original from sale price): Original = Sale price ÷ (1 − Discount%÷100)

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the original price
  2. Enter the discount percentage
  3. Results update instantly — see savings and final price

Example

Example 1 — 40% off clothing:
MRP: ₹2,500 | Discount: 40% → Save ₹1,000 → Pay ₹1,500

Example 2 — Stacked discounts on electronics:
Phone: ₹45,000 | First 15% off → ₹38,250
Additional 5% bank offer → save ₹1,912 more
Final: ₹36,338

Example 3 — Find original price:
Price tag shows ₹3,600 marked "40% off"
Original = 3,600 ÷ (1 − 0.40) = 3,600 ÷ 0.60 = ₹6,000

Tip: Stacked discounts (20% + 10%) ≠ 30% off. On ₹1,000: 20% → ₹800, then 10% → ₹720. Total saving = 28%, not 30%.

Frequently asked questions

Straight 50% off the listed price. ₹1,000 item at flat 50% = ₹500. Verify the 'original price' shown is genuine and not inflated before the sale.
In India, GST is applied on the transaction value (after discount). ₹1,000 item with 10% discount → GST on ₹900.
Add up (MRP − sale price) for each item. Use this calculator for each item, or multiply total MRP by the average discount percentage.
