What is a bill splitter?

A bill splitter calculates how much each person owes when dividing a shared bill — at a restaurant, on a trip, or for any group expense. It factors in tip and GST so you get the true per-person amount in one step.

Formula used

Tip = Bill × Tip% ÷ 100 Tax = Bill × Tax% ÷ 100 Total = Bill + Tip + Tax Per person = Total ÷ Number of people

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter total bill
  2. Enter number of people
  3. Optionally add tip % and tax/GST %
  4. Click Split — see per-person amount and full breakdown

Example

Example 1 — Restaurant with GST and tip:
Bill: ₹4,000 | GST: 5% | Tip: 10% | 5 people
GST = ₹200 | Tip = ₹400 | Total = ₹4,600
Each person: ₹920

Example 2 — Weekend trip expenses:
Hotel: ₹6,000 + Food: ₹2,400 + Petrol: ₹1,500 = ₹9,900 ÷ 3 people = ₹3,300 each

Frequently asked questions

This calculator splits equally. For unequal splits, calculate each person's subtotal separately. Apps like Splitwise handle complex multi-person unequal expenses over time.
Standard practice is pre-tax, but the difference is small. On ₹2,000 food with 5% GST, tipping 10% on ₹2,100 vs ₹2,000 is only ₹10 different.
Calculate per-person share, then everyone transfers their amount to the person who paid. GPay, PhonePe, or Splitwise make this easy.
