What is a Recurring Deposit?
A Recurring Deposit (RD) is a savings scheme where you deposit a fixed amount every month for a chosen tenure. At the end, you receive the total deposited amount plus interest, compounded quarterly.
RD Formula
M = R × [(1+i)^n - 1] / (1-(1+i)^(-1/3))
Where:
R = Monthly deposit
i = Quarterly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 400)
n = Number of quarters
Example
Depositing ₹5,000/month at 7% for 24 months: Total deposited = ₹1,20,000. Maturity ≈ ₹1,28,900. Interest earned ≈ ₹8,900.
Yes. RD interest is taxable as per your income tax slab. TDS applies if annual interest exceeds ₹40,000 (₹50,000 for senior citizens).
